The Gibraltar Bankers Association ("GBA") was established in 1982 with a membership of 8 banks. The association now has a membership of 15 banks and 3 building societies members.
The objects of the GBA are:
The Executive Committee, which comprises six elected members plus a secretary meets on a monthly basis with general meetings, which are open to representatives of all members, held once a quarter. Additional meetings are convened whenever required to discuss specific issues that may arise.
The Executive Committee meet the Financial Services Commissioner and the Banking Supervisor on a regular basis to discuss regulatory matters affecting the industry. In addition, the GBA has representation on the Gibraltar Finance Centre Council, the Gibraltar Chamber of Commerce and the local centre of the Institute of Financial Services (Chartered Institute of Bankers).
